Program Description

The Greeks Take the Lead Program is a mandatory workshop series for all fraternity and sorority chapters that are currently registered student organizations (RSOs) or are hoping to become a RSO. The Greeks Take the Lead Program serves as a way to help fraternity and sorority students feel empowered by providing further education on how they can intervene and end sexual violence in their chapters and greater community. All chapter presidents and a council member involved in risk reduction (or a leadership member interested in risk reduction) participate in leadership-based interactive trainings and all general members are required to choose a workshop focused on a specialized topic.

Are you confused about how you are required to engage with the Greeks Take the Lead program? Use this chart to help! What is your role in the chapter? Chapter President to President's Training to Any GTTL-eligible event! Elligible events will be marketed with the GTTL Logo. Risk Manager/Exec Member Focused on Risk Reduction or promotion of Safety to Risk Reduction Training. Another Exec Member and General Member to Any GTTL-eligible event! New Member to New Member Training.

Reminder! Students are only required to attend ONE GTTL - eligible event.

Below is the list of standard training topics we offer. Select one of the topics below you would like us to discuss with you and your chapter or council. If you have an idea that is not on this list, let us know! We'd love to work collaboratively with your chapter.

The Prevention, Outreach and Education Department and Michigan State Fraternity & Sorority Life are looking to capture feedback from fraternity and sorority students on potential topics to include for “Greeks Take the Lead” in this upcoming academic year.

Please fill out this anonymous interest form if you are an undergraduate fraternity or sorority member and would like to provide feedback on topics you'd like to be incorporated into Greeks Take the Lead program. Feedback provided by Monday, Oct. 3 will be prioritized, but please feel free to fill out this form any time afterward.

Online Education Programs

No, Greeks Take the Lead is a specialized training that is a different requirement from a SARV Prevention workshop or a Bystander Network workshop.

All members of Fraternity and Sorority Life are encouraged to attend workshops that are part of Greeks Take the Lead. If your chapter is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) you are required to attend a workshop to maintain your RSO status. If you're still unsure of your status or whether or not you need to attend, you may email gttl@msu.edu to contact a POE Prevention Specialist.

Greeks Take the Lead is offering an array of workshops on different days and times to accommodate varying schedules. We encourage you to register as soon as possible, as workshops will close once they meet capacity. Do not wait until the last workshop is offered, as it will fill up quickly.

For the 2021-22 academic year, all general member sessions (except for the keynote session) will be recorded and shared virtually with fraternity and sorority members. Contact your chapter president for detailed instructions on how to engage with recorded sessions for credit on D2L.

Send a list of members who will be gone during programming to gttl@msu.edu as soon as possible so that your roster reflects who is in your chapter. If you fail to send in these names, this could compromise your RSO status.

Yes, two leaders from your chapter (most often, a President and a Risk Manager) must attend at least one of the special leadership trainings provided at the start of the Spring semester in order for your chapter to maintain or regain their RSO status. Failure to attend these sessions compromises your chapter’s RSO status.

You can register for another workshop using the registration form and email gttl@msu.edu to inform a POE Prevention Specialist of which workshop you plan to attend.

Contact your chapter president. They have access to your chapter’s attendance record for Greeks Take the Lead and will be able to let you know if you received credit.
